Microsoft Virtual PC – Free to download and use

Microsoft Virtual PC

MSFT has recently made their software for virtualization available for free.

To download it click on the following link Microsoft Virtual PC (VPC)

For deployment and a better understanding about virtualization You can check out the following page:  Microsoft Virtual PC Deployment

VPC works with several Linux distributions as well. The following page is to an unofficial list of os it works with: The List

At the bottom of the page there are links to several sites that have additional information about VPC.

Requirements:
- A large disc enabling you to have several os and configurations (I use a 250 GB disc).
- Licenses of the os and other softwares to be used.

Personally I’m an old user of vmWare and therefore have no plans to port myself to VPC. MSFT move to make VPC available for free reminds me when Internet Explorer (IE) hit the market. At that time we used Netscape, which was the #1 browser, and paid a license fee in order to use it. Within some months Netscape was out of business and IE ruled. I hope we will not face the same situation with vmWare…

Kind regards,
Dennis
